Demeter Project was started by executives from nonprofit and corporate sectors to meet two goals:

1. We want to improve the average workplace. There are many systems that contribute to the cycle of poverty, and we picked the workplace as our first place to intervene and make a change that can lift people out instead of keeping them in the cycle. We're making some simple changes that are traditionally viewed as bad business, like placing higher value and more pay on a service job and allowing for unexpected life problems in scheduling. We believe financial profit does not have to come at the expense of human relations.

2. We want to create an alternative revenue source for local nonprofits. Eventually we would like to designate our profits to a human service agency in Dallas and create a sponsorship funding model that others may replicate.
